If you're on this page, it's my hunch you already know that Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a wicked disease.
This fatal illness advances without clear cause and without effective treatment. ALS eventually claims the life of every victim it touches. Ridding the world of ALS remains the loftiest of goals, and the battle rages on.
I'm Shirley Schmelzle. It took me almost nine months to be able to talk about the disease after my diagnosis in 2009. Now, I can't STOP talking about it. Like so many other people with ALS, I hope to make a difference in this battle by doing what I can to raise awareness.
Let's be honest; like so many other things, money and strategic resources are key. Awareness begets donations and funding; funding fuels research; reseach recognizes success; success in treatment and to a cure is what we need. By playing 'smart,' and joining up in unity to make our message louder and stronger, we can get to the goal faster.
I see a future where ALL the stakeholders in the effort to defeat ALS are united under one graphic expression that represents our Cause. Imagine - EVERYONE uniting; EVERY organization adopting; and together, we can talk less and accomplish more.
Please join me in this game-changing endeavor.
Please turn the pages, and learn more about what's going on and how you can become a part of this engagement.
With sincere appreciation,
Shirley Schmelzle, pALS
